Gosh what a busy start to the year! We’ve had a fabulous term 1 and the studio has been absolutely rocking each day. It’s been really satisfying hearing about all the progress that students have been making this term and the goals that they have set for themselves – lots of exciting stuff going on.

Term 2 starts Monday, April 16. Enrolments for term 2 have opened and spots are filling very fast!

Starting term 2 - lessons will now also be available Friday’s and Saturdays!

Give us a call if you’d like to grab yourself a spot on either of these days or another day across the rest of the week.

Wow! We’ve had a busy start to the term……lots of new students!

It’s going to be a great term, there is so much on!

First up, next weekend Sat, Oct 22 – the Surrey Hills Music Festival is on again. There is a whole day of great music lined up for you and the best part is that most things are absolutely free!

There will be bands, workshops, music events across 7 venues, buskers, open stage events and more. Come on down and wander around, bring your friends, enjoy the music….

The wonderful Milica

Gotta love days like today – just received another fab testimonial for our awesome guitar and bass teacher Milica. Her passion for teaching and experience really shows!

Great teacher testimonials seem to have been rolling in recently…..Thanks so much to everyone who has taken the time to give us such great feedback. It’s great to have such a wonderful team around us!

mid year concerts

We had an absolutely overwhelming response to our mid year concert series. All the spots booked out within days so, we had to quickly schedule another night!

Our concerts were special nights, the studio was transformed into an intimate performance space with professional lighting and the best of equipment.

As students took to the stage they were warmly welcomed by family, friends and an ever supportive audience. There were many absolute first time performers and some seasoned pros. From solo performers across the instrument range – guitar, piano, drums, singers etc. we also had budding singer songwriters and of course the bands. The little studio just buzzed and everyone was absolutley fantastic!

Our awesome teachers prepared students for the concerts. Teachers came along for moral support and give some last minute pointers on the night. Thanks guys for helping make our little studio hum!

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback that we’ve received from students and parents. Parents have said that students were on a high for days afterwards. We just love that! It confirms what we’ve always known – music is meant to be shared!

shining lights and quiet confidence…..

In the lead up to our mid year concerts in a couple of weeks time, we’ve been getting some great feedback from parents and students. Some students can’t wait to get up there and sing or play. They love to perform, they are confident. The desire to perform has always been in them, they are ready to go and just can’t wait! We love that we can give them a chance to perform and shine.

What’s also been interesting this time is the number of parents have been genuinely surprised that their normally quite shy child wants to get up on stage and have a go. I must say that I just LOVE that! I love that their child has new found confidence in their own ability, and that they understand that it’s ok if they don’t play everything perfectly – just do their best.

It’s great to be part of something that helps foster this quiet confidence…..

We are very excited and a little nervous at the same time, as we write our first ever blog post. We are excited by the thought of sharing our ideas, inspirations, influences and passion about all things music related. As well as sharing what’s happening at the studio etc. and having some fun along the way….. This is new territory for us. Wish us luck, here we go…..

For our very first post, we’d like to share a great guitar blog that we found a little while ago. It’s on a topic that is very close to James’ heart………..the endless quest for the ultimate guitar tone.

Guitarist Romain Bigeard has set up a really great blog for all things guitar related. It’s called, guitar tone overload and it focuses on his “endless quest for the ultimate guitar tone(s)” using effects, amps, and all sorts of other guitar equipment. He focuses on boutique equipment (pedals and such that are made in small factories or by hand) as well as more mainstream stuff. He explores the guitar tones of various famous guitarists. He not only writes about what each guitarist uses, but he also makes demo videos to show his readers how to get ‘the tone’ with certain equipment. It’s pretty cool stuff!

voodoo child music was born out of a life long passion for music and teaching music. After a successful career teaching music privately, James wanted to create something new and exciting. James and Siobhán had a shared vision of opening a little musical oasis in lovely Surrey Hills, Victoria. A special place that provides great quality music lessons to student of all ages. A place that gives every student the opportunity to perform, if they so desire.

The little studio has continually evolved into an intimate teaching and performing space. James and Siobhán have surrounded themselves with a team of wonderful, passionate, like minded teachers who make the little studio hum each day!

James and Siobhán currently divide their time between teaching, nurturing voodoo child music and caring for their two young children. They are lucky enough to love what they do.
